Most people don’t fail because they lack effort. They fail because they don’t have a plan—or they don’t follow one.

In this episode of Finding Your Innergator, RB Wright breaks down Phase Two of the Whale Hunting series: Planning. After identifying the right target through research, the next step is building a clear, structured plan that removes emotion and drives consistent execution.

Using real-world tournament fishing strategy, RB explains how top performers identify specific target areas, assign time blocks, and make disciplined decisions based on results—not feelings. The same principles apply directly to business, sales, and life.

If you’re tired of being busy without results, this episode will challenge you to move from intention to execution.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why having a plan is different than having goals or ideas
  • How structure removes emotion and improves decision-making
  • When to stay committed and when to adjust your approach
  • Why most people abandon plans too early or stay too long
  • How high performers create consistency through disciplined execution

Key Takeaways

  • “Follow the plan, not your feelings.”
  • “Being busy without a plan is just controlled chaos.”
  • “You’ve already made the decision—now execute.”

Hello, everybody, and welcome to Finding Your Innergator Podcast, where we talk about discipline, relationships, and the habits that relieve to greatness that is already inside of you. I'm your host, Arby Wright, and I am so glad that you're here. In each episode, we'll explore powerful lessons, real life stories, and practical strategies to help you live intentionally, build meaningful relationships, and unlock your full potential. But greatness isn't something you stumble into, it's something that is built every single day. So let's get started and begin the journey to finding your innergator. Hello, everybody, and yes, welcome to Finding Your Innergator Podcast. I am your host, RB Wright, and like I tell you every week because it is a true statement, I am so glad that you are here. You know, last week we talked about research. We talked about how high performers don't just work harder, they prepare better. We talked about doing the work up front so you're not guessing what matters. But today we take the next step. Because once you've done the research, once you know what you're targeting, the next question becomes this. And this is an important question to me, and that is do you have a plan? Phase one of the wealth series is research. Phase two is plan. What's your plan? Do you actually have a plan? And I'll tell you right now that most people don't. They have ideas, they have intentions, they have goals, but they don't have a plan. There's a big difference. In fact, I believe in this step so much that I actually have it tattooed on the inside of my laughing arm. It says, follow the plan. Not think about the plan. Not talk about the plan. Not change the plan every five minutes. Follow the plan. And I've got it there on my arm. So if I start to deviate, I can look down on my arm and remind myself, RB. Follow the plan, baby. Follow the plan. You know, my fishing analogy on this. This is real life. When we're tournament fishing, again, this is a well hunting series, so we're going to use a lot of fishing analogies. We don't just go out when we tournament fish and figure it out on the fly. Based on the research, phase one, that we've done, before we ever leave the dock, before we ever pull out a slug point, we're already identified three, maybe four areas that we're going to fish. Why those areas? Because of what I discovered in the research. I told you that was the most important thing, right? The water temperature, the bait movement, the currents, the recent activity. We've already done that part of the work. But here's where it gets important. We don't just have locations. We have plans for those locations. And I assigned times. I've got an 8.5 by 11 paper that's been laminated, and it sits up there on the helm and it says we're going to fish this spot for X amount of minutes, maybe it's 60 minutes, maybe it's 75 minutes, depending on where we're at. We put the spread out. We fish it the way it's supposed to be fished, and then we make a decision. When the time's up, if we're getting hits, if we're seeing the activity, if it's working, we stay and we go deeper into it. We maximize it. We lean into it. But if we're not, if there's no strikes, no life, no indication in the right place, we move. It's not an emotional decision. It's not no hesitation, no second guessing, not thinking, well, if I just gave it five more minutes, because five becomes ten, that becomes twenty, and the next thing there are two hours. But why do I move to the next spot? Because I trust the plan. Now think about how different that is from how most people operate in business. They wake up, I tell you this all the time, right? They wake up, they check emails, they react to whatever shows up. They bounce from one thing to the next, and at the end of the day, they say they were busy, but there was no plan. There was no structure. There was no intentional execution, and then they wonder why there are no results. Let me say something that may hit a little bit. May step on your toes a little bit. Being busy without a plan, you've heard this, it's just controlled chaos. Let's bring this into sales, right? I'm gonna stick with the loan officer analogy. You say you want to grow your business, you say you want to recruit and grow your branch, you want to add more referral partners, you want to build relationships, you say these things. Okay. What is your plan? How are you gonna do this? Who are you targeting? How many conversations are you having? How much time are you actually allocating to it? Or what point, at what point do you adjust? Or are you just calling whoever you think of that day? That's the equivalent of me just leaving the dock in the morning saying, boys, we're gonna win this tournament. I've done no research, I have no plan. I'm just going along and I say, look around, and all the water looks the same. Hey, let's just fish right here. This water has got to be fish here. And just hope something hits it. High performers, winners, do not operate like that. They know exactly who they're going after, how they're going after them, how long they're going to stay with it, and when it's time to adjust. That's the plan. That's the plan. And here's the key. When you have a plan, you are removing all emotion. One of the biggest reasons people fail, again, I tell you, is not the lack of ability. You're capable. It's the inconsistency. They get discouraged, they get distracted, they abandon what they started. But when you have a plan, you don't have to decide in the moment. You've already decided. Now you just execute. Let's go one step deeper on this. One of the things I see is that when people do have a plan, they don't follow it. They abandon it too early. They don't give it enough time to work. They bounce from one idea to the next and they never build momentum. Think about my tournament fishing again. If I go to a spot, I've researched, I know what's there, and I've got my spread out, and we're we're we've got the baits out, and we troll for 10 minutes, then I say, let's pull the lines, let's go. Because nothing happened. Did I really give it a chance? No. The flip side is if I stay there all day when there's clearly nothing happening, am I being effective? No. That's why the time structure matters. That's why the plan matters, because it gives you discipline. It tells you when to stay, it tells you when to move, and that applies directly to your business. And I hope you can see the correlation because some of you are leaving opportunities way too early, and some of you are staying in the wrong places way too long. And both are costing you as a result of not having a clear plan. You know, that's why we're building this integrator system. What I found is this most people know what to do, but very few people actually do it consistently. Why? Because they do not have structure. You know, one of the tools in the integrates system that's coming out pretty soon is designed specifically for this. I just thought about this. It's our daily execution planner. It's a way to map out what you're targeting, what you're focusing, how much time you're allocating, and what success looks like. So you're not guessing, you're executing. Because at the end of the day, winning is not about knowing more. It's about executing better. So here's your challenge this week. Don't just set goals. Don't just think about what you want. Build a plan. Set aside some time. Build a plan. Identify what you're going after, where you're going to focus, how long you're going to give it and give it a fair shot, and when you're going to adjust, after you've given it the fair shot and not getting results, you move to your next spot, right? And then, once you got that plan built on, follow it. Follow the plan. Even when it's quiet, even when it's frustration is building up, right? You're getting frustrated. Man, nothing's happening. Even when it doesn't feel like it's working, because that's where most people fall off. I tell you every week that inside of you, you there is greatness. But greatness is not built on ideas, it's built on execution. And execution is driven by structure. So don't just show up. Show up with a plan. More importantly, follow it. Follow it. I hope that you're enjoying this series. I hope that it is helping you. If you know somebody who is, you know what, busy but doesn't have a plan and needs to know how to do it, share this episode with them, right? We appreciate the feedback, appreciate uh the the fact that many of you uh are are following this and you're starting to, it's starting to click for you. I appreciate that. And my hope is that this week you develop your plan, you follow your plan. And I look forward to talking to you next week when we're gonna talk about, I call it the spread. That's your fishing terms for the baits that we pull, but in reality, it's your presentation, right? We're gonna talk about that next week, and I look forward to it. Until then, have a great week and talk to you soon. Everybody, thank you so much for listening to the Finding Your Inner Gator podcast. You know, if today's episode helped you, share it with someone who needs to hear this message.
