You don’t get unlimited chances.

In business and in life, you get a moment. A look. An opportunity. And in that moment, your presentation either connects… or it doesn’t.

In this episode of Finding Your Innergator, RB Wright breaks down Phase Three of the Whale Hunting series: The Spread. Using offshore fishing as the foundation, RB explains how the spread—the baits and lures behind the boat—is what the fish sees and reacts to. It’s not random. It’s intentional, precise, and aligned with the target.

Then he brings it directly into business and sales.

Your spread is your presentation. Your message. Your positioning. And for most people, this is where it falls apart.

If your message isn’t clear, if your delivery isn’t aligned, or if your presentation doesn’t connect, the opportunity is gone—no matter how good you are or how strong your product is.

This episode is about getting clear, getting intentional, and making sure when your moment comes… you’re ready.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why your presentation is your one shot to create a reaction
  • How clarity drives connection and eliminates hesitation
  • The direct link between targeting and messaging
  • Why confusion kills action in sales and communication
  • How high performers intentionally design their “spread”

Key Takeaways

  • “Your presentation is what people see, feel, and react to.”
  • “You don’t get paid for what you know—you get paid for what people understand.”
  • “Confusion kills action.”
  • “Precision, not hope, creates results.”

Innergator System Connection
This episode ties directly into the Innergator system, where clarity in communication and intentional presentation are critical components of execution. It’s not just about knowing what to say—it’s about making sure it connects.

Your Challenge This Week
Take a hard look at your presentation.

  •  Are you clear?
  • Are you intentional?
  • Are you aligned with what your audience actually needs?
  • Or are you just putting something out there and hoping it works?

Because hope is not a strategy. Precision is.

Hello everybody and welcome to Finding Your Innergator Podcast where we talk about discipline, relationships, and the habits that release to greatness that is already inside of you. I'm your host, Arby Wright, and I am so glad that you're here. In each episode, we'll explore powerful lessons, real life stories, and practical strategies to help you live intentionally, build meaningful relationships, and unlock your full potential. But greatness isn't something you stumble into, it's something that is built every single day. So let's get started and begin the journey to finding your inner gator. How are we doing, everybody? This is RB Wright, and I am so glad that you're here. You're listening, you are listening to the Finding Your Inner Gator podcast. You know, over the last couple weeks, we we've been building something, you and I. We started with research. Remember, we started doing this well hunting series, right? So we started with research, then we moved to planning. But today, we're going to go into what I believe is one of the most important parts of this entire process, and that is the spread. Y'all know I love to fish, right? So you're following this analogy. Now, if you're not a fisherman, let me explain what I mean by that. When we are tournament fishing, offshore uh fishing, the spread, that's the lures, the baits. It's what we're pulling behind the boat. You know, if you ever see somebody uh fishing and you've got these big outriggers, these arms that stick offside the boat, and you see all these different rods, and they've got typically six, maybe seven rides in the water. They're attached to teasers, they're attached to lures. That is the spread. It's what the fish sees, it's what they react to. It looks like baits swimming across the water. It's what ultimately determines whether they strike or they just kind of look at it. Here's what's important about that. A spread is not random, right? If I'm fishing at king tournament, I got a certain spread I'm gonna have out. Typically, I like to have a spread of live bait, livees. We're trolling really, really slow. Mahi, tuna, I'm usually gonna have Ballyhoo. Trolling a little bit faster than I do with the the uh king spread. Mahi fishing, if that's my target. I'm trolling a lot faster, and I have much bigger baits. Different colors, different baits, different sizes, different trolling speeds. Everything changes depending on what I'm going after. I will stagger the baits, deep water, some on top water, skipping across the top, some mid-level. And I want it to look like that school of bait fish naturally moving through the water. Why is that? I'm trying to create a picture. In a picture, I want a picture that triggers a reaction. Now, now think about that. In business, your spread is your presentation. It's what people see. It's what they feel, it's what they react to. I think most people would completely miss this. They think if they just show up and say the right things, it's going to work. Hey, I'm charming, RB. People are gonna just like me. That's not how it works. I mean, just like fishing, you you don't get unlimited chances, right? I got nice gear, I got a nice boat, I got some nice rods. None of that means anything. If I don't ever get a strike, and they're only gonna strike if that presentation is right. You get a moment, you get a look, an opportunity, and in that moment, your presentation either connects or it doesn't. Let's deep dive this for a second. You know, when I put a spread out and I got my lures out, my team knows this. We don't just set it and forget it. It's not just on autopilot. The boat may be, but the spread isn't. We're constantly checking it. Why? Why are we doing this? Because fish, bait fish don't swim with grass hanging off of them. We'll be going through and we'll come by a weed bed and it'll be a piece of grass, and you look and that ballyhoo doesn't look right, or that lure doesn't look right. You bring it in, he's got grass all around him. Fish aren't going to hit that. Ballyhoo don't swim upside down. The last time I checked, they got to look natural. And if something doesn't look right, it will kill your entire presentation. Bring that into your world. You're sitting down with a client, you're on a call, you're presenting your business, and something's off. Maybe your message isn't clear, maybe your delivery is a little scattered. I feel like that sometimes. I have to reset. Maybe you're talking too much and not listening. That's deadly, by the way. Maybe you're aligned with, you're not aligned with what they actually need. And just like that, they're gone. You've done your research, you had the plan, but you blew it on the presentation. It's not because you're not capable, it's not because your product isn't good, it's because your presentation didn't connect. That's the spread. Here's where this gets even more important. Clarity is everything. When I'm fishing, I know exactly what I'm targeting. That clarity drives everything in my spread. The bait selection, the positioning of the lures, the speed, the depth, it all lines up with the target. In business, if you're not clear, if you don't have that clarity, I told you the first thing you need to do in the morning is get clear. If you don't have that clarity, neither will your presentation. And if your presentation isn't clear, people don't act. They hesitate, they get confused, they disengage, you lose the opportunity. Let me say let me say this again. Confusion kills action. Think about your last few conversations. Were you clear? Or were you just talking? Were you intentional? Or were you just hoping that something that you said hit? Ladies and gentlemen, high performers, they do not wing it. They don't just show up and see how it goes. They're intentional with their spread, with their presentation. They think about what this person need to see, what matters to them. I had a conversation earlier today, and I said to the folks who were on a coaching call, and I said to them, don't talk about what's important to you. Talk about what's important to them, what matters to them. How do I position this in a way that it connects? What's the right message? What's the right tune? What's the right timing? You got the high performers understand that this is their shot. Now let me take it a step further. Even when you have the right presentation, the right spread, you've nailed it, right? You you've got it together when you walk in that room or you want that phone call. You still gotta maintain it. You still gotta adjust it. Conditions change, waters change, light changes, fish behavior changes, and if you don't adapt, your spread, your presentation will stop working. That's the same thing in business. What worked six months ago might not work today. What worked with one client might not work with the other. What's important to one is not always important to the other, right? What worked in one market might not work in the next. So you have to stay engaged. You have to pay attention. You have to refine your presentation. Not occasionally, constantly. It's not a one-time setup. This is a living, breathing process. You know, this ties directly to what we're building with the Intergator System. One of the things we're focused on is helping you create clarity in your communication, clarity in your messaging, clarity in how you present yourself, your business, and your value. Your value. End of the day, you don't get paid for what you know. You get paid for what people understand. And if they don't understand it, they're not going to act on it. Here's your challenge this week. Take a hard look at your presentation, your spread. Take a hard look at how you're showing up, how you're communicating, how you're presenting yourself. Ask yourself, is this really clear? Do I have the clarity on it? Does it make sense? Is this intentional? Is this aligned with what I'm actually targeting? Or am I just putting something out there and hoping it works? I've told you, you've heard it a thousand times, hope is not a strategy, but I guarantee you precision is. Are you precise? Folks, I tell you every week that inside of you is greatness. It is there, it's inside of you. It wants to come out. But greatness isn't just built on effort, not just on research, not just on planning. It's built on execution. And execution is driven by clarity. Hey, don't just show up. Show up with a spread that connects. You guys are awesome. I appreciate the feedback, and I hope that you've been enjoying this series. I enjoy this series. Listen, I I I first presented this probably two and a half, three years ago. And the more I talk about it, the more I apply it, the better, the better my business has been, my life has been, and understanding that hitting those things that people told me I could not do has become very, very capable because I have a system. I have a system. And this research, planning, we're talking about the presentation today. Then what happens? That presentation is right. That fish strikes. We call it a takedown on the boat. That's when the rod doubles over and the line's peeling off. You get that takedown. That's when the fight begins. That's what we're going to talk about next. The fight or in life, the negotiations. I look forward to sharing that with you and learning from you. And I hope that your week is great, and we'll talk next week. Thanks, guys. Everybody, thank you so much for listening to the Finding Your Inner Gator podcast. You know, if today's episode helped you, share it with someone who needs to hear this message.
